Peter and the Starcatcher

Peter and the Starcatcher, based on the best-selling novels, upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan boy becomes the legendary Peter Pan. The comical nature of the show allowed me to be more flexible with period. Many of the props and set dressings in the show were made of recycled materials, so I did the same with the mermaids, hand making all of them out of bubble wrap, newspaper, and other recycled materials. Other fun costumes were the Mollusks (islanders), and their leaders Fighting Prawn and Hawking Clam. Though Hawking Clam is the son of Fighting Prawn, we chose a more androgynous look for the actress playing this role to accentuate rather than hide the fact that she was a woman.
