The Costumes for A Chorus Line focused on reality. The goal of the show was to create realistic dance audition clothing specific to each character, while creating a balanced stage picture. Inspiration came from dance clothing throughout time, mostly from the 1960's through present, to create costumes that were timeless and classic. The finale number is all glitz and glamor. We chose to use champagne as the primary color, as it is a nod to the gold original, with a slightly softer, more modern flare.

Research
My research for A Chorus Line consisted of looking at rehearsal photos from productions from the 1950’s through the present in an effort to come to a timeless dance look. The colors and the costumes came together realistically, yet artistically. To me the biggest challenge was to differentiate every character without it feeling forced, and to create a cohesive stage picture without it feeling ‘designed.’
